August 27, 2009 - Helen Mehrkens named CTE Administrator at Alaska Department of Education

State Board of Education Adopts Regulations--effective 2010-2011 School Year.

Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year:

  • 6th and 8th graders must take benchmark assessments in Applied Math, Reading for Information, and Locating Information (by using WIN courseware placement tests); and
  • 11th graders must take the ACT WorkKeys® assessments in Applied Math, Reading for Information, and Locating Information.

In the meantime, several districts have agreed to act as pilot sites for trying out WIN and WorkKeys®.  Please note that WIN instructional courseware is currently available to ALL public K-12 schools in the state, and high schools will soon be able to administer ACT WorkKeys® assessments to their 11th graders, even though the regulations are not yet effective. The state will pay the required fees to WIN and ACT.

For more information on the program, see the informational website at http://www.careerready.alaska.gov
